The big news of the day. A U.S. Airways plane had two of its engines fail shortly after taking off from LaGuardia Airport in New York this morning. The flight that was heading towards Charlotte, North Carolina held 155 people on board the craft and had to engage in an emergency landing in the Hudson River. The pilot skillfully landed the craft as gently as possible into the frigid waters of the Hudson as city-goers watched in awe.
Thankfully all 155 people on board survived, some without any injury. After the plane crashed and came to a halt, the emergency exits were opened allowing the passengers and crew to quickly make there way out onto both wings of the plane, being careful to balance the submerging vessel. Within minutes tankers and other boats patrolling the river came to the aid of the sinking group of escapees.
There were few substantial injuries; though most passengers were taken to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
My hat’s off to the pilot of the plane, Capt. Chesley B. Sullenberger for executing such an amazing landing, saving the lives of all her passengers and collies.
